Globis University Number One in Nikkei HR’s “Student Satisfaction Ratings of National MBA Programs”

—For 2nd Consecutive Year; Practicality of Curriculum and Faculty Win High Acclaim

The Graduate School of Management, Globis University (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshito Hori), has been recognized as number one in the “Student Satisfaction Ratings of National MBA Programs” published in “Nikkei Career Magazine Special Edition – The Perfect Book on MBA, Accounting and MOT for Fiscal 2010” on October 22, 2009. Nikkei HR conducts the survey annually, and this is the second consecutive year in which Globis University has ranked on top.

Targeting people who are taking or have taken an MBA program in Japan, the survey asks respondents to rate universities in 10 categories including, “Program covers broad topics,” “Classes are mostly practical,” and “Opportunities to communicate closely with the lecturer” on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the highest score). The survey then ranks national MBA programs with an overall score, with 50 as the highest score. Globis University scored 46.5 out of 50, and the article that accompanied the survey noted, “The school receives close-to-perfect ratings in its Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya campuses in terms of the quality of curriculum and faculty, as well as in the level of students and services of the administration office.” (*1)

In terms of the evaluation categories, Globis received maximum scores of 5 in “Classes are mostly practical” and “Quality faculty,” while scoring well in other categories as well. In comments included in the article, respondents noted, “They have core management causes as well as courses to strengthen analytical thinking and even a course on how to establish personal resolve in life, which is not found in other schools” (male, 37 years old), “There are many courses that offer opportunities to converse actively with the lecturer, and we get to communicate with lecturer over dinners and drinks as well” (male, 31), and, “We can interact with students in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, and we are expanding our alumni network.” (male, 31)

Globis University was founded in 2006, taking advantage of the Koizumi administration’s Structural Reform Special Region System to form an incorporated, technical graduate school. Globis aims to develop business leaders who take on change and creativity in Japan and Asia(“Visionary Leaders who Create and Innovate Society”). Globis became an educational corporation in 2008 and currently has campuses in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, enabling students to acquire MBA degree status in Japanese and English. Many students favor the school for its faculty, which consists of practicing business owners or strategic consultants who hold realistic discussions based on actual corporate case studies—an approach known as the case method—and for the frequent opportunity to have open, frank discussions that go beyond normal lecturer-student relationships on the subject of ambition, which is indispensable for entrepreneurs. This is underlined by the fact that the school’s own student satisfaction survey conducted for each course produces an exceptional score of 4.7 out of 5. (*2)

In addition to student satisfaction with course programs, another factor behind the high ratings is the precise care and tailored service that Globis offers for busy working people, allowing them to use evening hours and weekends to obtain an MBA while working. Students can also take make-up classes at any of the Tokyo, Nagoya or Osaka campuses when traveling on business and use a third-party childcare center operating under contract with Globis while attending class.

Since its founding in 1992, Globis Group has maintained its commitment to improving quality by operating a Quality Guarantee System (*3) that refunds the entire tuition to any student dissatisfied with the quality of a course. Not content with resting on its laurels, Globis will continue to improve its offerings and contribute to producing business leaders capable of bringing change and innovation to society.
